Principal's Message T2 W10 2021

And … Cut!

This week we are barrelling headlong into the final moments of term. There is nothing quite like finishing off strong. We have multiple sports events, multiple music and cultural events, multiple assessments to finish, multiple reports to finalise, the list goes on. People in schools rush at a frantic pace right up to the last moment.

Generally.

In amongst the craziness of the end of school term there is always someone, or some few, who just seem to glide through it. They never get really ruffled, they always look like they have it under control, they are calm and helpful when all around them look like they have had too much coffee in not enough lunch break. Be they kids or teachers, office ladies or mums and dads, they just have it nailed.

Or at least they look like they do. We have all heard the expression of being like a duck, looking calm on the surface but paddling like mad underneath the water. It really is the great trick, the big secret to self-control. Avoid the emotional highs and lows, approach things deliberately and calmly, be gracious and helpful, put others first and be present when you are needed, actually present not just physically there. And work like crazy.

And rest when it is time to do so.

I find that the most interesting people to be around are those who know how to get the balance right, who know how to work hard and rest hard. Those who take the time for leisure, to recharge, who enjoy a hobby or their garden. People who actually visit museums. I mean who actually goes there if it isn’t for an excursion? Just really interesting, interested people. So, thank you all, students, staff, families. What an amazing school, what a special busy place this is and what a term it has been. But for now …

Thanks folks, that’s a wrap.
