Chess Mates – Holiday Program and Term 2 In-School Classes for P-6

Chess Mates offer a fantastic holiday program for those interested in chess. Please see the attached flyers for details.

For those students interested in our P-6 lunchtime chess classes (Wednesday 1:20-2:00pm in the Junior School Library) you can sign up for Term 2 by search for our College on the Chess Mates website - https://chessmates.com.au/school-lessons/#search

Fuse Cup

In recent weeks we have had teams compete in both the Year 5/6 and 7/8 Fuse Cup Regional Competitions. Fuse Cup is a safe, supportive, and structured national eSport competition for kids which focuses on developing digital well-being and positive gaming habits. This term saw us compete from school in an online competition against schools from the Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast Regions. The game for Term 1 was Just Dance – it was definitely an active competition, with all students having to dance at least 10 songs. Lots of fun was had by all!

Extra-curricular Activities

Our libraries are becoming a hub for many extra-curricular activities. Students who are interested in any of these activities for Term 2should speak to Mrs Monica Altmann.

  • Year 9-12 eSports - Monday and Wednesday at lunchtime; Thursday after school from 3:15-4:30pm.
  • Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 eSports – practice during break times. Students should check their emails and Daily Notices for days.
  • Secondary Reading Club – Monday lunchtime.
  • Secondary Chess Club – informal matches – Tuesday lunchtime.
  • Chess Mates lunchtime chess classes in the JS library each Wednesday. Please head to their webpage to register your child for Term 2 classes.

Overdue Books

You may receive emails or paper notices in diaries from time to time about overdue books. Your attention to these is much appreciated. Students with overdues may not be permitted to borrow further books until those loans are returned.

Reading in the Holidays

Holidays are a great time to read! Students are allowed to borrow books during the holidays and also have access to a great range of eBooks through Wheelers ePlatform.
